[See image gallery at www.autoguide.com] McLaren sold and delivered 3,340 cars in 2017 – up a small amount from 3,286 cars in 2016.

The majority of those sales were from the Sports Series line of vehicles – those being the entry-level 540C, 570S and 570GT. McLaren delivered 2,119 Sports Series vehicles in 2017, which is up from 2,031 units last year. The British manufacturer also sold 1,221 Super Series vehicles, which include some examples of the 650S and the newer 720S that replaced it.

North America continued to show its love for McLaren cars in 2017, with Canadian, American and Mexican customers buying up a combined 1,234 cars throughout the year, up from 1,139 cars in 2016. The company is in the process of growing its dealer network and opened new facilities in Bahrain, Montréal and Denver last year. It has plans to open a showroom in Barcelona this year as well.

For 2018, McLaren hopes to continue its record of year-over-year sales growth. The company’s Track22 business plan, which will see it introduce 15 new or updated vehicles by 2022 (three of which have already arrived), also remains firmly in its crosshairs.

“We are continuing to invest heavily in research and development – £1billion over six years – as part of our ambitious Track22 business plan that sets out and supports our growth,” said McLaren CEO Mike Flewitt. “Long-term, the plan will see us launching 15 new cars and/or derivatives up to 2022, with three revealed to date.”

“2018 will also see the continued development of the company with the planned opening of a second production facility in Yorkshire,” he added. “When fully operational in 2019, we will innovate and manufacture the carbon fibre ‘tubs’ at the heart of all of our cars. Carbon fibre is a core part of our brand’s DNA – McLaren being the first to introduce the material into Formula 1 – but it is also crucial to vehicle performance given its lightweight nature. Making cars lighter as well as the increasing use of hybrid powertrains are the future of vehicle design which we are well positioned for.”

McLaren recently launched the track-focused Senna road car, which will begin deliveries later this year. The company will also rely heavily on the 720S for sales throughout 2018, with Flewitt saying he expects half of all of the company’s sales this year to be derived from the Super Series line of vehicles – which right now only consists of the 720S.
